Sleep is the foundational pillar of health. If you sleep well, I know your daily behaviours and those around your nutrition will also go well. So my 12 tips for better sleep are
- Stick to a sleep schedule
- Exercise often, but not later than 2.5 hours before bed
- Avoid caffeine and nicotine
- Avoid alcohol before bed
- Avoid large meals late at night
- Avoid sleep-disrupting medication. Benefits don't outweigh risks
- Don't nap after 3 pm
- Have time to relax before bed
- Take a hot bath or shower before bed
- Dark, cool, gadget-free, quiet bedroom
- Proper (sun)light exposure upon waking
- Don't lie in bed awake
