Hungry after breakfast?

It's not uncommon for people to be hungry again only an hour after breakfast. Here are two reasons why this might be and ways to overcome it!

  1. You're not including/eating enough protein & balancing your meal.

Protein keeps us satiated (full) because it digests slowly in our tummy, keeping us fuller for longer. Which is one reason why it's really important to include protein in each meal. This really helps keep you going until your next meal, and therefore helps with over eating.

Make sure you're including a protein source (aim for around 30g) as well as a slow release carb for energy, healthy fat & some micronutrients (fruit/veg!)

  1. You're not eating enough calories

If you're eating 250 calories for brekkie because 'you're on a diet' and so are trying to eat less…it won’t fill you up, and so you’ll be hungry again at 10am. So then you reach for a snack, and then another one...and by 11.30am you've eaten another 300 calories in snacks...well you might as well have had a bigger breakfast!Giving yourself more food and energy to set you up for the day will keep you from snacking and will keep food off your mind for the morning. This really helps with those of you who think about food all the time too...if you're genuinely not giving you body enough energy (food ) then of course it's going to keep prompting you to seek out more food (oh hey snack attacks and constant food preoccupation).

Which of these are you going to work on this week? Let us know!
